Current Packers odds

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, If I Were a Betting Man by ravenhater on Tuesday 29 August 2006 at 5:50 pm

The over/under for Packers wins is 6.  The Packers are currently 65-1 to win the Super Bowl and 35-1 to win the NFC.

My suggestion would be to stay away from betting on the Packers.  I expect them to be improved, but to win six games this season.  Save your money.

Packers get trounced 48-17 in the Jungle Monday night

The Packers had to know it wasn’t going to be a good night early on.  Brett Favre fumbled a ball in the first quarter that safety Dexter Jackson picked up and returned it 29 yards for a TD.  Favre was a little off the whole game, completing 48.0% of his passes for 162 yards.  He threw one TD and one interception.  Aaron Rodgers finished up and completed 2 of 6 passes for 7 yards.

It was a good sight to see all of the Packers running backs healthy and playing in the same game.  Ahman Green had 8 carries for 18 yards (2.3 ypc).  Najeh Davenport carried the ball 4 times for 21 yards (5.3 ypc).  Samkon Gado had 10 carries for 23 yards (2.3 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 19 yards.  Noah Herron had 8 carries for 27 yards (3.4 ypc).

WR Donald Driver looked good, catching 4 passes for 72 yards and a TD.  Rookie wide-out Greg Jennings caught 3 passes for 40 yards.

The defense was awful.  The Bengals ran the ball 34 times for 146 yards (4.3 ypc).  Carson Palmer was shredding the Packers defense like swiss cheese.  The Bengals completed 58.6% of their passes for a net of 233 yards passing…..and 5 TD passes!

Repeat after me…..it’s only pre-season.

WR Greg Jennings pushing for a starting gig

2nd round pick Greg Jennings out of Western Michigan University is pushing for a starting job with the Packers.  Jennings is in a battle with Robert Ferguson for the job.  Ferguson has had a lot of chances before to step up, but never has.  Jennings has caught 8 passes in the pre-season for 199 yards (24.9 avg) and a TD.  Jennings and Favre look like they are developing a good chemistry between them.

So far, so good for the Packers

The Packers aren’t as concerned on offense with the numbers, they just want to be healthy heading into the 2006 season and they have been so far.  The Packers are averaging 85.0 yards rushing per game on 3.5 yards per carry.  The Packers passing game has been very sharp averaging 202.0 yards per game and completing 68.5% of their passes.

The revamped defense has been looking good too.  The Packers are giving up 96.5 yards per game rushing and only are allowing 3.7 yards per carry.  The Pack is giving up 195.5 yards per game through the air and allowing a 58.2% completion rate.

Packers acquire WR Carlton Brewster from Browns

The Packers acquired Carlton Brewster from the Browns.  Brewster wasn’t going to make the Browns, but the Packers are bringing him in for a look.  Brewster caught 3 passes for 21 yards in the Browns first two pre-season games.  The Packers traded DB Therrian Fontenot to the Browns, who are hurting in the secondary.
