Packers vs. Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 September 2006 at 11:46 am

The Eagles have been an offensive machine so far this season, averaging 436 yards per game and 28.7 points.  The Packers have been hot on offense the last two games averaging 32.5 points.

Look for the Packers to attempt to run the ball with Ahman Green (215 yards)  and throw short passes.  The Eagles already have 16 sacks, so Favre will have to be careful and not panic.  WRs Donald Driver (269 yards) and Greg Jennings (173 yards) could have huge games if the offensive line gives Favre time to throw the ball.

The Eagles will try to utilize Brian Westbrook (256 yds. rushing, 164 yds receiving) against the Packers LBs who have played the run tough so far this season.  Donovan McNabb (960 yards) should have a great game against a porous Packers secondary that allows 301 yards passing per game.

I look for the Eagles to win a high-scoring, entertaining football game.

Better Defense Needed

All I want to say is that by drafting A.J. Hawk, LB #50, is a very good start to building a better defense! Now to start looking at some more present Ohio State players, hmmm? Sorry, I’m partial to the Buckeyes.

Packers outlast Lions 31-24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 September 2006 at 8:24 am

The Packers won an offensive shootout as Brett Favre is looking like the younger versions of himself.  Favre completed 25 of 36 passes for 340 yards with 3 TDs and no INT.  RB Ahman Green had a good game for someone who’s hurtin a little bit.  Green ran the ball 22 times for 63 yards (2.9 ypc) and caught 8 passes for 68 yards and a TD.  Rookie WR Greg Jennings had a huge game catching 3 passes for 101 yards and a TD.  Donald Driver caught 3 passes for 20 yards and a TD.

The defense had a rough time holding the Lions down.  The Lions ran for 105 yards on 23 carries (4.6 ypc) and completed 25 of 40 passes for 319 net yards thru the air.  S Marquand Manuel had a huge game with 7 tackles and an interception that he returned 29 yards for a TD.  LBs AJ Hawk and Nick Barnett both had 9 tackles.

With the defense playing like they are, Brett Favre and the offense will have to continue putting up huge numbers to outscore the opposition.

Pass defense is bad but……

You can’t blame DE Aaron Kampman for that. Kampman is playing like a man possessed as he already has 4 sacks in the first two games. Kitna is the next victim on Sunday.

Packers vs. Lions

This is a very interesting match-up despite the fact that both teams are 0-2.  Both of these teams have trouble running the ball, but are good at throwing it.

Look for the Packers to attack the Lions secondary immediately.  Opposing teams have a QB rating of 125.9 against the Lions!  Favre will attack the Lions with Donald Driver (249 yards) and rookie Greg Jennings.  After the Packers establish the passing game, look for Ahman Green to start carrying the football.  The Lions’ run defense has been very good, allowing only 90 yards rushing per game and 3.0 yards per carry.

The Packers have an effective run defense, but the Lions don’t run much so it won’t matter anyhow.  The Lions’ will throw alot of short passes to slow the Packers pass rush.  WR Roy Williams could have a huge game against the Packers’ secondary that hasn’t shown much resistance to the opposition.  Packers’ opponents have completed 66.2% of their passes and have compiled a QB rating of 97.1.

Unlike most, I think this will be a high-scoring game because of the weak pass defenses both teams employ.  Whichever QB plays better…Brett Favre or Jon Kitna….will be the QB on the winning team in this football game.

Packers Need Defense

Blogged under Uncategorized by skotak on Monday 18 September 2006 at 7:44 pm

The packers are a great offensive team, even though they were shut out against the bears.  I felt that in that game some of the early play calling was bad.  Brett Favre is a hall of fame quarterback and he needs to make more pass attempts than he did in that 1st half.  They don’t have a strong running game, Ahaman Green is a great player but you got to recognize who the defense is.  Bears stop the runs by loading the defensive line, so passing against them more will create the running game.  I felt that Packers should have passed a lot more on some of the 1st half series on 1st and 2nd downs.

They need to get someone better on defense in the safety position and in the line backer position, and this has been the case since the last 3 years not just now.  This dates back to the 4th and 26 against Philadelphia from 2004 Season.  Oh, I get a heart attack when I hear 4th and 26 anytime.  I mean all you do is play prevent and put 4 guys arond 25 yards, 3 around 20 yards, and rush 4, for some pressure.  I know its easier said than done, but I hope that the defensive coordinators see this and try to do something about the defense.  Just take a look at how many plays they have given up of more than 15 yards in the 2 games, over 10 in each game and the opponent 3rd and 4th down conversion is at 40%, and on 1st and 2nd down 50%, so overall teams are converting 1st downs nearly 45% of the plays or about 20 in a game.

I hope the team sees this and just focus on two things.  Trade someone to get faster defensive players or change the style of defense, put more pressure on QBs, blitz more.  Also  for sure, pass more, and pass more on 1st and 2nd downs.  You guys can’t let Brett Favre go out like this, he needs to make playoffs and I don’t even see why not even the Super Bowl.  There is really no better offensive team in the NL Central than Green Bay, if you use Farve at his best abilities.

Packers put up a good fight, but lose 34-27

QB Brett Favre showed he still had something in the tank with a great effort in the loss to the Saints. Favre completed 31 of 55 passes (56.4%) for 340 yards with 3 TDs and 1 interception. RB Ahman Green had a rough time carrying the ball 16 times for 42 yards (2.6 ypc) and caught 6 passes for 48 yards (8.0 avg). WR Donald Driver had a great game catching 8 passes for 153 yards (19.1 avg). Rookie WR Greg Jennings caught 6 passes for 67 yards (11.2 avg) and a TD. TE David Martin caught 6 passes for 44 yards (7.3 avg). RB Noah Herron and WR Robert Ferguson each caught a TD pass.

DE Aaron Kampman was dominant against the Saints with 3 sacks and a fumble recovery. The Packers stuffed the Saints explosive running game, holding them to 48 yards and only 2.2 yards per carry. The Saints completed 63.4% of their passes for 332 net yards passing.

Quarterback Job

It is time for the changing of the guard. Farve must retire. I can’t believe that the front office and coaching staff can continue to let him embarass himself.

Packers vs. Saints

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 14 September 2006 at 11:26 pm

If the Saints want to really pound someone, you would think it would be a Packer team that laid a 52-3 beating on them last season.  The Saints look much improved this season.  Look for the Saints to attack the Packers defense with their two-headed running back that rolled up 150 yards rushing on the Browns last week.  The Packers linebackers will have their hands full with Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush.  After the Saints establish their running game, QB Drew Brees will attack with his short play-action passing attack.  Brees is a smart game manager at QB that doesn’t take too many chances or make many mistakes.

Even though the Saints defense looks improved, I have a feeling that the Packers will move the ball well against them.  Ahman Green should have a good game running against a Saints defense that lacks speed all over the field.  WR Donald Driver will be able to get downfield as long as the line gives Brett Favre time to find him.  If Favre has time, the Packers will put up points and critics will get off of his back for at least a week.

The Saints aren’t as good as they looked in week #1, and the Packers aren’t as bad as they looked either.  This should be a good football game.
