Mike McCarthy
Coach McCarthy has never been a head coach in the NFL. McCarthy was offensive co-ordinator for the New Orleans Saints from 2000-2004 and last season he was offensive co-ordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. McCarthy also the Packers QB coach in 1999.Â

He has not yet coached a single game, we need to give him the benefit of the doubt for at least one game. It happens to be against the Bears in Green Bay. If he wins he is a great coach for a week or two. If he does not win he take on large step for a man kind in the wrong direction.
Coach McCarthy is going to be in the frying pan this weekend with a young team and a lot of untested players. I hope him well but I don’t know if they would be ready for the Bears with Vince Lombardi at the helm.
The defense will really have to step up this weekend and get some turnovers for the pack to have a chance.
McCarthy is basically rebuilding the teams talent levels. Defensivly the defense still need a bigger pass rush. The linebacking crew could be good, but little experience(Hawk and Hodge). Woodson could help at corner, but has yet to prove it. Lots of questions there.
On the offensive side of the ball the line is learning a new blocking scheme, which is not to bad since most of them have yet to even play a regular season game. The TE’s are decent to very good at times. The wr’s minus Walker could have a rough year again. Jenkins could be good, but most rookies take a year to get “IT”. Driver is a fantastic #2 receiver that performs fantastic feats, but has a tendency to disappear in games, against big strong corners, when he is the primary target. The RB’s Green is he able to go 100%, if so can the line open holes for him? Gabo is he ready to go, same questions see above. Lots of questions here, too. Farve is the only constant. He will do what Farve does. We need to face the fact that Sherman left the talent pool on the team dry up. The Packers are trying to fill the holes to take advantage of Farve coming back. That’s why Farve said if the Packers wanted to go another way he wouldn’t be surprised, or even upset. He knows it is real close to a total rebuild. They made some great moves, but the coach won’t be the only reason for the struggles this year. Be patient they will turn the corner, maybe not this year, but they are headed that way. Let the coach a few years and then see what we have.
Lets not act like the Bears are a great team. They were 5-11 two years ago. Whoever wins the turnover battle will win the game, so Favre needs to protect the ball.
Hiring an assistant from a powerhouse franchise like the Saints…..absolutely brilliant….another losing season
I think that the Packers made a mistake when they fired Mike Sherman. Favre can’t carry the whole team and no I don’t think he should have retired last season.
ON COMMAND
A doctor friend of Bears coach Lovie Smith told him he brought his insane asylum patients to the Bears opening game against the Packers at Lambeau Field. For weeks in advance, he coached his patients to respond to his commands.
Lovie asked his friend how it went?
â€Well, When the day of the game arrived, everything seemed to be going well. As the National Anthem started, I yelled, “Up Nuts” and the patients complied by standing up.
After the anthem, I yelled, “Down Nuts” and they all sat back down in their seats.
After Bernard Berrian scored an unbelievable touchdown pass, I yelled, “Cheer Nuts.” They all broke out into applause and cheered.
When Brett Favre completed a pass to Donald Driver, I yelled, “Booooo Nuts!!!” and they all started booing and cat calling.â€
Lovie said “I’m glad you and your patients had such a good time. It looks like everything went well.â€
“Not really!†the doctor said. “At halftime, I decided to go get a beer and a hot dog, leaving my assistant in charge and when I returned, there was a riot in progress. Finding my assistant, I asked him, “What in the world happened”?
He replied, “During halftime, we were invited down onto the field to meet the Packer players. All of the patients were standing around Brett Favre in a circle.
Just then a vendor passed by and yelled PEANUTS!”
