Packers fall 34-24 to Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 29 November 2006 at 3:40 am

The Packers just couldn’t hold onto the football as they only had possession of it for 23:53 of the game and that hurt.  Brett Favre didn’t have the best game of his career, as he completed 22 of 36 passes for 266 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT.  Ahman Green carried the ball 14 times for 44 yards (3.1 ypc) and a TD.  He also caught 6 passes for 46 yards.  Donald Driver stabbed 2 passes for 82 yards and a TD.  Greg Jennings was also pretty busy with 6 catches for 50 yards.

A.J. Hawk was pretty busy with 15 tackles.  Charles Woodson had a very good game with 4 tackles and 2 interceptions.  Abdul Hodge pitched in with 6 tackles and he returned a fumble 29 yards for a TD.  The Packers just couldn’t stop the Seahawks running game as they carried the ball 48 times for 235 yards (4.9 ypc).  The Packers did o.k. against the pass as the Seahawks only completed 17 of 36 passes for 147 net yards passing.

This is a tough loss for the Packers because things were looking good at halftime, and then Shaun Alexander took over.

Aaron Rodgers out for the season

Blogged under Big Packer News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Friday 24 November 2006 at 3:25 pm

Back-up QB Aaron Rodgers will miss the remainder of the season because of a broken left foot that he suffered in last week’s game against New England.  Rodgers finished up his second season completing 6 of 14 passes for 46 yards.  The Packers still have not figured out if Rodgers is the QB of the future or not.

The Packers signed veteran Todd Bouman to a contract earlier in the week.  Bouman has played in 42 games and started 6 in his career.   Bouman has completed 56.1% of his passes for 1,683 yards with 11 TDs and 11 INTs so far in his career, and he has a QB rating of 75.3.

Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Packers and Seahawks are both coming off disappointing losses, but the Seahawks are finally getting healthy.  Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander will both be starting on Monday Night.

Look for the Packers to run the football with Ahman Green (644 yards rushing) and Vernand Morency (235 yards rushing) against a soft Seahawks run defense that allowed Frank Gore to rush for 212 yards last week, and have allowed an average of 117.8 yards rushing and 4.5 yards per carry on the season.  Brett Favre (2,368 yards passing) could also have a good day against the Seahawks who allow 212.7 net yards passing per game.  Donald Driver (58 rec, 813 yards) could have a huge game on Monday Night.

Look for the Seahawks to throw the ball alot against a Packers secondary that is allowing 241.3 net yards passing per game.  Darrell Jackson (50 rec, 785 yards) and Deion Branch should cause all kinds of trouble for the Packers as long as the line gives Hasselbeck enough time to throw the ball.  The Packers already have 33 sacks (Aaron Kampman has 10), and the Seahawks have allowed 34 sacks on the season…so that could be a problem.  Shaun Alexander could have a rough time against the Packers defense which is only allowing 3.7 yards per carry this season.

Look for an offensive shoot-out on Monday Night.  I have a feeling that the gimpy QB that protects the football better will prevail in this game.

Packers totally destroyed at home by the Patriots 35-0

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 20 November 2006 at 10:18 am

The Packers had no chance in this football game as the Patriots came out of the tunnel looking to kick whoever’s butt appeared on the other side of the field.  The Patriots dominated every facet of the football game, and even knocked Brett Favre out of the game.

Brett Favre had a rough game before the Patriots dealt him the knockout punch, as he oly completed 5 of 15 passes for 73 yards.  Aaron Rodgers replaced him and looked pathetic completing 4 of 12 passes for 32 yards.  Ahman Green got stuffed all day as he had 13 carries for 28 yards (2.2 ypc).  Donald Driver led the receivers with 2 receptions for 42 yards.

A.J. Hawk led the defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery, but the defense played pretty bad on Sunday.  The Patriots rushed for 122 yards on 40 carries (3.1 ypc).  The Pack allowed the Pats to complete 20 of 31 passes for 235 net yards passing.

What an awful display of football exhibited by the Packers this week.  They batter hope Brett Favre’s injury isn’t serious..or their season is over!

Green Bay Packers vs. New England Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 16 November 2006 at 7:02 pm
The New England Patriots have lost two games in a row for the first time in a season since December 22, 2002!  The Packers have caught fire and have won 3 of their last 4 games.

Look for the Patriots to come out throwing against the Packers, the same way they did against the Vikings when they thrashed the Vikings 31-7 in the MetroDome.  Coach Belichick always adjusts the offense to the opposing teams’ weaknesses….and for the Packers, it’s the secondary.  The Packers have allowed 242.0 net yards passing per game on the season.  To combat that, the Packers need to get Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and Aaron Kampman in the backfield to put pressure on Brady.  Also look for A.J. Hawk to do some blitzing off of the edge.  The Patriots will not abandon their running game, however, as Laurence Maroney (495 yards rushing) and Corey Dillon (479 yards rushing) have run the ball very well this season.

The Packers have been running the ball well this season, but I have a hunch that they will come out throwing the ball against the Patriots.  Brett Favre (2,295 yards passing) has been hot as of late and the Patriots really don’t have anyone that can cover Donald Driver.  The Packers offensive line has only allowed 11 sacks this season, so Favre should have the time to attack the Patriots down the field.  Look for Ahman Green to get his carries to attempt to keep the Patriots offense off of the field.

I see this as being a very high scoring game.  Whoever has the better game between Brett Favre & Tom Brady will win this football game.

Packers get big win 23-17 on road over Vikings

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 7:42 pm

Brett Favre had not played well in his career at the MetroDome, but you would never would have believed that after he torched the Vikings secondary all day long!  Brett Favre completed 24 of 42 passes for 317 yards with 2 TDs.  Ahman Green had a rough time with the Vikings defense with 22 carries for 55 yards (2.5 ypc).  Donald Driver had one of the best games of his career with 7 receptions for 173 yards and a TD!  Ruvell Martin pitched in with 3 catches for 47 yards.  Noah Herron caught 2 passes for 11 yards, including a big TD grab.  FB William Henderson caught 6 passes for 26 yards out of the backfield.

The Packers defense made plays when they had to today.  Rookie LB A.J. Hawk was all over the place and had 9 tackles and 1.5 sacks.  Reserve CB Patrick Dendy had a good game with 5 tackles and an interception.  The Packers held the Vikings to 90 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.9 ypc).  The Vikings completed 18 of 30 passes for 222 net yards passing.

This was a huge win for the Packers that actually has them thinking playoffs.  That thought would have seemed ridiculous last month, but not so now.

Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 10 November 2006 at 3:59 pm

The Packers will try to rebound from losing a game 24-10 to Buffalo in which they out-gained the Bills 427-184!  The Vikings have been absolutely horrible on offense the last two weeks as they’re only scored 10 points in those games combined.

Brett Favre hasn’t had much success at the MetroDome as his career record there is 4-10.  He will have to play well Sunday for the Packers to have a chance to win this game.  The Packers would love to run with Ahman Green (561 yards rushing) and Noah Herron but the Vikings’ run defense has been awesome this season allowing only 69.0 yards per game and 3.1 yards per carry.  Favre has had a decent season so far (1,948 yards passing) but he’ll have to be careful against the Vikings defense that has picked off 9 passes this season.  The fun thing to watch will be WR Donald Driver (50 rec, 580 yards) matched up against Antoine Winfield of the Vikings.

The Vikings will try to run the ball with Chester Taylor (708 yards rushing) at a decent run defense of the Packers that allow 98.0 yards rushing and 3.8 yards per carry.  If the Vikings can establish a running game, that should slow down the Packers pass rush enough to get the ball down the field a little in the passing game.  The Vikings could have a tough time with DE Aaron Kampman of the Packers who already has 9.5 sacks this season, they had better double team him on passing plays or he will be in their backfield.  Brad Johnson hasn’t played well with only 4 TDs and 8 INTs, but the Packers pass defense is weak and has allowed 244.5 net yards passing.  The Vikings WRs need to catch the ball as they’ve suffered a ton of drops this season.

The QB that plays better will win this football game and I can make an arguement for either QB playing the better game.  This is a toss-up!

Green Bay Packers’ QBs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 11:32 am

Brett Favre has rebounded well from his poor season last year.  Favre has passed for 1,948 yards this season with 11 TDs and 7 INTs.  Favre has a QB rating of 78.8 this season and he still makes some throws that make you scratch your head, but Favre is focused on some of Dan Marino’s records and he’s getting close to them.  Of course, he could just be holding them until Peyton Manning comes up and grabs them.  Basically, Favre is still way better than any other options that the Packers have, so his job is safe for awhile.

Aaron Rodgers has completed 2 of 3 passes for 14 yards as a mop-up man so far.  Rodgers is the future at QB for the Packers, but that won’t happen until Brett Favre retires, and that’s the way it should be in Titletown.

Packers lose to Bills 24-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 5 November 2006 at 9:56 pm

The Packers should have blown the Bills out in this game.  The Packers out-gained the Bills 427-184 and lost the game because of sloppy play by Brett Favre.  Favre completed 28 of 47 passes for 287 yards with 1 TD and 2 BIG interceptions.  One of the pick-offs was returned for a TD and the other one was returned 76 yards!  Ahman Green had another great game carrying the ball 23 times for 122 yards (5.3 ypc).  Noah Herron carried the ball 5 times for 25 yards (5.0 ypc) and caught 7 passes for 57 yards.  Donald Driver had a good game catching 9 passes for 96 yards and a TD.  Greg Jennings (5 rec, 69 yards) and TE David Martin (4 rec, 51 yards) each did their part to help the offense.

DE Aaron Kampman ( 8 tackles, sack) and DT Corey Williams (3 sacks) led the way on a great effort by the defense.  The Bills carried the ball 28 times 120 yards (4.3 ypc).  The Bills only completed 8 of 15 passes for 64 net yards passing.

The Packers should have won this game, plain and simple.

Packers lose one, get one back

Cornerback Charles Woodson is doubtful for Sunday’s game with an injured knee.  WR Greg Jennings has returned to practice and is likely to start on Sunday against the Bills.
