A.J. Hawk proving to be a great pick for Packers

When the Packers drafted A.J. Hawk their were alot of whispers about the speed of the NFL being too much for Hawk.  But, he is playing well for the Packers and proving the naysayers wrong.  Hawk has played in all 12 games and has 103 tackles, 3.5 sacks and has defensed 5 passes.

Hawk is the first building block to the re-building of the Packers defense.

Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Saturday 9 December 2006 at 2:00 am

The Packers have played absolutely awful the last three weeks, all losses, by a combined score of 107-34!  The Niners have lost two road games in a row.

The Packers really need to get Ahman Green (790 yards rushing) going against the 49ers run defense which is allowing 122.4 yards rushing and 4.3 yards per carry so far this season.  Brett Favre needs to limit his mistakes.  If he can, he should have a good day throwing the ball as the Niners allow 218.4 net yards passing per game.  Donald Driver (64 rec, 943 yards) vs. Walter Harris (6 INT) should be worth the price of admission.

The Niners will run the football with Frank Gore.  Gore already has 1,217 yards rushing on the season and has caught 46 passes.  The Packers run defense is allowing 117.4 yards rushing and 4.0 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Alex Smith to run some play-action and attack the safeties and linebackers with rookie TE Vernon Davis.

The Niners should win this football game as the Packers look like they’re ready to wave the white flag on their season.

Packers destroyed by Jets 38-10

The Packers must have forgot that they had a game today as the Jets built up a 31-0 halftime lead, and then coasted to victory.  Brett Favre completed 24 of 47 passes for 214 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Favre also carried the ball 3 times for 33 yards (11.0 ypc).  Ahman Green had a good game with 14 carries for 102 yards (7.3 ypc) and caught 4 passes for 38 yards.  Vernand Morency carried the ball 6 times for 14 yards (2.3 ypc) and caught 3 passes for 43 yards.  Noah Herron caught 7 passes out of the backfield for 51 yards.  Donald Driver added 3 receptions for 41 yards and a TD.

The Packers couldn’t stop the Jets from doing whatever they wanted to on offense.  The Jets carried the ball 31 times for 178 yards (5.7 ypc).  The Jets also completed 25 of 35 passes for 263 net yards passing.

The Packers have to give a better effort than this at home or the natives will start to get restless.

Green Bay Packers vs. New York Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 1 December 2006 at 8:51 pm

The Jets won last week and are now 5-1 against teams with losing records…..which is what Green Bay is.  The Packers have lost the last two games and have been outscored 69-24 in those games.

The Jets would like to run the ball against the Packers, who allow 111.9 yards rushing and 3.9 yards per carry, but the Jets really don’t have much of a running game.  Leon Washington, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston have not played well.  That means that pressure will be on Chad Pennington to produce from the get-go.  Pennington should have a good day as long as the Jets’ O-Line keeps him clean.  That is easier said than done against the Packers.  Aaron Kampman (10 sacks) and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (5 sacks) are the guys the tackles have to keep off Pennington.  Laveranues Coles (68 rec, 826 yards) and Jerricho Cotchery (51 rec, 666 yards) could have big games.

The Packers would love to get Ahman Green (688 yards rushing) going against a poor Jets run defense that allows 135.2 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry on the season.  As soon as the ground game is established, look for Brett Favre to unleash Donald Driver (60 rec, 895 yards) and Greg Jennings on the Jets secondary.  The Jets allow 216.3 net yards passing per game.

This is a pretty even football game.  I would think the QB that makes the least mistakes will win this football game.
