The Packers got five starting players out of last April’s draft and a couple of more who could develop into starters. It was amazing to watch 3 rookie offensive linemen protecting Brett Favre and opening holes for Ahman Green. Here is a breakdown of one of the better drafts in the history of the Packers:
In the first round the Packers drafted OLB A.J. Hawk and he didn’t disappoint. Hawk played in all 16 games and registered 119 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, defensed 6 passes, forced a fumble and recovered 2 fumbles. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Hawk as he will be a dominator soon on the Packers defense.
In the secon round the Packers selected OG Daryn Colledge. He played in all 16 games and started 15 of them. The 6′4″, 299 pounder will be a started for a long time on the Packers.
The other 2nd round pick the Packers made was WR Greg Jennings. Jennings had a small problem staying healthy but he showed the ability to be an impact player for the Packers. He played in 14 games (11 starts) and he caught 45 passes for 632 yards (14.0 avg) with 3 TD catches. He also returned 5 punts for 29 yards (5.8 avg).
ILB Abdul Hodge was the first of the Packers third round picks. He only played in 8 games and he made 10 tackles, defensed 2 passes and recovered a fumble that he returned 29 yards for a TD. He looks like he could be a starter in the near future for the Packers.
The second of the Packers 3rd round picks was center Jason Spitz. Spitz played in 14 games and he started 13 of those. He will be the starting center for the Packers next season. He also recovered a fumble.
4th round pick WR Cory Rodgers didn’t make the team.
In the 5th round the Packers had three selections. With the fist one they chose CB Will Blackmon who played in 4 games and made 1 tackle. With their 2nd 5th round pick the Packers selected QB Ingle Martin. He played in one game and carried the ball 2 times for -5 yards. He looks like the third QB for the Packers next season. The best pick the Packers made in this round was the last one which was OT Tony Moll. Moll played in 16 games and started 10 of them. He held his own and looks like he’ll be a starter next season for the Packers.
In the 6th round the Packers selected DT Johnny Tolly who played in 6 games and made 4 tackles and defensed a pass.
The other 6th round pick of the Packers was strong safety Tyrone Culver who played in 14 games and made 9 tackles and defensed a pass.
7th round pick Dave Tollefson (DE) didn’t make the team.
