New York Giants 23, Green Bay Packers 20 in OT
The Packers season ended with a thud yesterday in the bitter cold. Brett Favre’s excellent season ended with an interception on his last pass of the season which set up the Giants game winning field goal in OT. Brett Favre completed 19 of 35 passes for 236 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 interceptions. Ryan Grant couldn’t repeat his success of last week as he only rushed for 28 yards on 14 carries (2.0 ypc). Donald Driver had a great game as he caught 5 passes for 141 yards (28.2 avg) with a TD grab. TE David Lee pitched in with 3 receptions for 35 yards (11.7 avg) with a TD catch. The Packers finished up with 28 yards rushing on 14 carries (2.0 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 35 passes for 236 yards.
Safety Atari Bigby and tackle Corey Williams led the way for the Packers Defense with 9 tackles apiece. The Giants finished up with 134 yards rushing on 39 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 40 passes for 246 yards.

Win or lose you still have the greatest quarterback in NFL history. A class act through and through. Believe it or not I watched the game in a bar full of Bears fans that were rooting for Favre to to win last night, out of shear respect for the man. Here`s hoping he returns next season, seams to me he still has a few good years in him…and it just wont be the same without him.
HA HA!!!!
I have watched Brett Farve for 17 years and there’s one thing I can say about him that I feel defines him the best: Consistency. No, not the number of seasons he’s played, not the consecutive starts record, it’s his consistent ability to throw interceptions at crucial points in a game. The more crucial the down in the more crucial the game, the better the chances he WILL throw the game losing interception. The west coast offence is supposed to be a ball control offense. You’d never know it by watching him. Several years ago he became the only quarterback in the history of the Packers to have actually received a standing ovation from the Lambeau crowd for throwing the ball away. When the Packers won the Overtime toss in this game, I prayed that McCarthy would insert Rodgers to just move the ball safely down the field into field goal range. When Farve trotted onto the field, I almost turned the TV off because I knew what was coming. And it did. Retire, Brett. You will never learn to protect the ball if you haven’t learned it by now. I am sick and tired of watching you throw game losing interceptions. Remember the Philadelphia game several years ago? I thought the Philly punt returner was going to run onto the field to receive the straight up and straight down “pass” he threw that day to lose the game. Remember the Cardinal game in Phoenix a couple of years ago? Game on the line, interception. Just two of the heartbreaking interceptions I saw personally. Rodgers has shown he is capable of taking over the offense after years of study AND that he will more likely be able to take care of the ball in crucial situations. Brett is an exciting player to watch but he is also a heart breaker.
I couldn’t agree more with J Hill. I’m through with people giving Favre a “pass” every time he does something like that, because he’s Brett Favre. He has given this game so much excitement and interest, but giving the game away like that when a few good plays could have meant SUPER BOWL, is just inexcusable ! ! Yes – retire Brett, I can’t go through another season like that just to have my heart ripped out of my chest and stomped on the ground. I wanted so much for Favre to silence his critics this season (and he did for the most part) until it mattered the most. All he did at that point was give them more ammo.
And Kevin from New York – enjoy this. Because next week, the most painful thing to happen to a New York fan will – losing the big game to a Boston team. Enjoy ! !
I agree Favre doesn’t always make the best decisions but what about the successful chances he takes and the good decisions. Look at the OT victory in Denver. Granted my heart stopped when I saw Favre heaving the ball down field but saw one of the most exciting OT victories ever after Jennings broke away.
Favre definitely made some bad throws this season but his receivers minus Driver are all very young. Some of that comes from young guys missing their routes and not being used to being ready for Favre’s signature improvs. Donald Lee learned fairly quickly as the same type throw (shovel pass after nearly being sacked)that lost the game for us against Chicago at home, got us a first down to keep our drive going and tie things up against Seattle in the playoffs.
i like the way and agree with you.
