The Packers went up and down the field today but they still only put 13 points on the board and it just wasn’t enough.  Mason Crosby missed a 53-yard field goal with 1 second left in regulation as it hit the left upright.  Aaron Rodgers then threw a pickoff (LaRon Landry) in OT that set up Washington’s kicker with a 33-yard game winning field goal.  Rodgers completed 27 of 46 passes for 293 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 30 yards (7.5 ypc) today.  Brandon Jackson had by far his best game of the season for the Packers today.  He carried the ball 10 times for 115 yards (11.5 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 25 yards (5.0 avg) today.  John Kuhn pitched in with 3 carries for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 5 yards.  WRs James Jones (4 rec, 65 yards) and Donald Driver (4 rec, 58 yards) led the way for the Packers in the passing game today.  Jermichael Finley couldn’t go today because of injury so rookie Andrew Quarless (4 rec, 51 yards) and Donald Lee (2 rec, 22 yards, TD) filled in for him.  The Packers finished up with 157 yards rushing on 17 carries (9.2 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 46 passes for 270 yards.

Everything that could go wrong did yesterday for the Packers but they somehow prevailed in the end.  KR Jordy Nelson had a disaster of a game as he lost two fumbles.  Aaron Rodgers was so-so in this game for the Packers as he completed 12 of 17 passes for 181 yards with 3 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Brandon Jackson (9 carries, 33 yards) and John Kuhn (9 carries, 39 yards) led the way for the Packers on the ground in this game.  Donald Driver (3 rec, 89 yards), Jermichael Finley (4 rec, 36 yards) and Greg Jennings (2 rec, 25 yards) each caught 1 TD pass apiece in this game for the Packers.  The Packers finished up with 92 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 17 passes for 169 yards as they only had the ball for 22:23 yesterday.

CB Charles Woodson led the way for the Packers’ D with 13 tackles, 3 passes defensed and a interception that he returned 48 yards for a TD.  LBs A.J. Hawk (12 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception) and Nick Barnett (10 tackles and 1 QB hit) were also very busy for the Packers’ D yesterday.  The Packers are now 3-1 on the year.

The Packers killed themselves last night with penalties as they were flagged 18 times for 152 yards!  But, it was a fumble by WR James Jones late in the 4th quarter that put the Bears final, game winning drive in motion.  Aaron Rodgers was very effective in this game as he completed 34 of 45 passes for 316 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 20 yards (10.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  John Kuhn led the way on the ground for the Packers last night with 31 yards rushing on 6 carries (5.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 20 yards (10.0 avg).  Brandon Jackson didn’t add much to the offense last night as he carried the ball 7 times for 12 yards (1.7 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 27 yards (6.8 avg).  TE Jermichael Finley (9 rec, 115 yards) and WRs Donald Driver (9 rec, 61 yards), James Jones (5 rec, 55 yards) and Greg Jennings (2 rec, 18 yards, TD) were all busy in the game.  The Packers finished up with 63 yards rushing on 15 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 34 of 45 passes for 316 yards.

Green Bay Packers 27, Philadelphia Eagles 20

The Packers raced out to a 20-3 lead in this game in the third quarter.  Then Clay Matthews knocked out Eagles’ starting QB Kevin Kolb and they Packers had to hold on for dear life as Michael Vick almost brought them all the way back.  Aaron Rodgers was so-so as he completed 19 of 31 passes for 188 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Ryan Grant was looking good as he carried the ball 8 times for 45 yards (5.6 ypc) before he injured his ankle.  Brandon Jackson replaced Grant as he carried the ball 18 times for 63 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 12 yards.  FB John Kuhn got a couple of scraps from the table as he carried the ball 2 times for 15 yards (7.5 ypc) including a TD run.  WRs Greg Jennings (5 rec, 82 yards) and Donald Driver (5 rec, 30 yards) each caught 1 TD apiece to lead the way for the Packers’ passing game yesterday.  The Packers finished up with 132 yards rushing on 33 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 31 passes for 167 yards yesterday.

Green Bay Packers 45, Arizona Cardinals 51 OT NFC Wild Card

Blogged under Big Packer News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,The Playoffs by Andrew on Monday 11 January 2010 at 8:42 pm

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers offense put up a ton of points against the Arizona Cardinals defense, but it wasn’t enough.  The Cardinals defense was able to come up with the play of the game when Karl Dansby grabbed Rodgers’ fumble before it even hit the ground and scurried 17 yards into the endzone to win the game.  It sure was an exciting game, with both quarterbacks putting up monster numbers in what would become the highest scoring postseason game in NFL history.  Rodgers came out and was intercepted on the first play of the game, but boy did he bounce back.  He finished with 422 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception on 28/42 passes.  Down 17-0 after the first quarter, Rodgers slowly got the Packers back in the game, trading touchdown passes with Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner throughout most of the game.  He opened up the 4th quarter with 2 touchdowns, which finally evened the game at 38-38.  After another Warner touchdown, Rodgers came right back and tied the game with under two minutes that eventually sent the game into overtime, where the unfortunate game-losing fumble occurred.

The Packers’ defense really let the team down in this game, even though the Cardinals were expected to score a lot of points.  Kurt Warner did pretty much whatever he wanted in the passing game, going 29/33 for 379 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Warner is a great quarterback, but the Packers should have been able to keep him under a  88% completion percentage.  Even more discouraging is that they gave up 156 rushing yards to a Cardinals team that has not run the ball well this year.  Aaron Rodgers has proven he is a top quarterback in this league, but the Packers need to give him a better offensive line and a stronger defense for him to make a Super Bowl run anytime soon.

Green Bay Packers 33, Arizona Cardinals 7

The Green Bay Packers (11-5) and the Arizona Cardinals (10-6) will be meeting in the first round of the playoffs.  The Packers went all out and they crushed the Cards because of it.  The Cardinals were sitting a lot of their key players in a preview of their first round match-up, so this game may not tell you much about the outcome of the playoff game.  The Packers do have an advantage when it comes to rhythm, timing, and not breaking their routine.  The Cardinals will have fresher legs and have had more rest, so we will see come playoff time which has helped more.  Either way, the Packers looked very good while the Cardinals did not.

Aaron Rodgers went 21/26 for 235 yards and 1 touchdown.   Donald Driver caught 6 passes for 65 yards and the receivers were clicking well with Rodgers.  Ryan Grant and Ahman Green combined for 93 yards and 1 touchdown on 23 carries.  The Packers defense held the 187 total yards, including only 48 rushing yards.  They also forced 3 turnovers.  This was a good win for the Packers, but they cannot let this game affect how they approach the rematch in the first round of the playoffs.
